COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns have forced many people to learn to cook at home. It was to save on food bills and find new ways to stretch the budget. Household budgets went through some soul searching for nutritious and filling foods. Thus far, there have been many fascinating inventions since the lockdowns. There has been an evolution of family meals.

Evolution of dishes

People have been active on YouTube and networking to learn cook to economical food to feed the whole family. So, they have been learning to bake cakes, and bread, make deserts and cook main dishes. This evolution creates tasty recipes to make exciting dishes for the family. Thus far, children have been the drivers demanding parents to prepare different dishes. It helped to moan and groan at dinner time.

Lockdowns and work from home orders eliminated ‘no time’ reasoning. Hence the moment creates proficient cooks or home gardeners. COVID-19 quickly gave everyone a reason to learn cooking and gardening. In fact, vegetable gardening creates an opportunity for an abundance of fresh vegetables. Hence, social media has been running hot to proclaim their harvest and delicious dishes.

Pasta and noodles discovery

Whether it was discovery or rediscovery, pasta and noodles are an economical source of carbohydrates. They require an accompanying sauce or soup to make a simple and complete dish. So far, pasta, noodles, and dumplings are common comfort foods. You may create pan-tossed ravioli, spaghetti dishes, or gnocchi. They are perfect with virgin olive oil, butter, and garlic sauce. Similarly, a bowl of hot Asian noodles with wontons and chow mien noodles with fresh vegetables provides nutritious dishes. In fact, they are irresistible dishes.

Pasta is traditionally an Italian dish. However, it is eaten worldwide. Thus far, nearly every country has its own version of this famous and economical staple. Pasta is one of the most affordable foods. They come in many forms.

Noodles are predominantly Asian cuisine. Today, noodles are an international dish. Every Asian country in addition to noodles has a different pasta dish.

Pasta types

Long pasta comes in form of spaghetti, angel hair, or fettuccine. Short pastas are macaroni, rigatoni and penne. Hence, they may be in dumplings form like gnocchi, ravioli, and tortellini. Pasta dishes are lusciously cooked with ripened garden tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, and onions. In America, they prepare and serve pasta dishes similar to the way it is found in Italy. However, with the exception of the all-American spaghetti and meatballs, and macaroni and cheese. So, pasta dishes are of great value, easy to store, easy to prepare, very satisfying dish, and fast to make.

Thus far, every Asian country has a form of pasta. It includes the Chinese la mian, lo mien, or jiaozi dumplings. Japanese have ramen and gyoza dumplings. Most people love noodles or pasta, it may be any shape or size. Thus far, most noodle and pasta dishes include soups, stir-fries, and tossed noodles.

Noodle varieties

Noodles too come in various shapes, colours and textures. They form the basis of many Asian specialty dishes. Asian noodles are basically divided into three types. They are wheat noodles, rice noodles, and glass or cellophane noodles. The most common is the thread variety. However, noodles may be flat and round too.

Chinese egg noodles are the most common in Asian cuisine.  They may be fresh or dried with the main ingredients being egg and wheat. They are the perfect selection for a wide range of dishes like soups, salads, and main dishes.

Ramen noodles are the Japanese versions of egg noodles. The common use for it is in soups besides the main course. Mung bean noodles may be flat or in thread form and translucent. They are made from mung beans and is also known as glass noodle. They puff up on frying and on complete cooking turn transparent. Rice noodles are a popular choice for soups and stir fry.
