Food plays an important role in romance and love. People often give a box of luscious dark chocolates, a delicious grilled whole lobster, or fresh and juicy exotic fruits. The deliciousness of juicy strawberries coated with chocolates often sets the tone for a romantic encounter. So, there are few human sentiments that are as compelling as the desire for amorous connection. The foods of love play a huge role in the process.
Human beings have an attraction to love and romance after meeting the basic needs of food shelter and protection. It has been so since the beginning of time. This attraction is for pleasure and propagation. So, it is a universal and the most enduring human enigma. Hence, it represents survival in the purest and natural form.
Social relationship
Research demonstrates that social relationships influence eating behaviour. Hence, eating behaviour may reflect on strengthening relationships too. For example, two people may offer each other food. Thus, observers rate their relationship bonding more when no food is on offer. In fact, food offering has been the earliest bio-behavioral interaction between parents and children. It ensures the survival of the child who is solely dependent on food provided by others.
So far, at least in our brains, food connects to love and a sense of well-being. It is the dopamine system of our brains that rewards us with feelings of pleasure. For example, the dopamine system often becomes active in people when they look at a favourite food or someone they love. So, food makes people fall in love. Hence, the theory that the way to love one’s heart is through their stomach.
Ancient entertainment
In ancient times, entertainment was sitting around a fire and telling stories. They may be talking about birds and bees or stories about the universe. It would define how things came to be. So, these sessions were an amusement for our elders. This was well before the invention of television, movies, and mobile or smartphones.
Thus far, many stories mostly had a magical climax. They would include native legends of tropical fruits, communal foods, and lessons on the morality of life. However, the focus was mostly on food and love life. In fact, it represents the purest form of survival. Thus, it ensures the continuation of our species. So, at its best, it is mind-blowing. Thus far, in its worst situation, it is fun too.
Exotic fruits
Mangoes are always about love. Thus far, mangoes have been known in India since the early days. In Sanskrit literature, it is referred to as Amra. It is normally associated with stories about love. Hence, the strawberry links to the symbol of Venus, the goddess of love. It dates back to ancient Rome. Probably because of its bright coloUr and tempting taste. Pineapples are known for their reputation to improve love life to some degree. Watermelon is known as one of the best aphrodisiacs for men too.
According to Greek mythology, pomegranate bursting with ruby red seeds associates with reproduction and fertility. Hence, it is believed Aphrodite, the goddess of love, pleasure, and procreation planted the first pomegranate tree.
Romantic foods
History and culture confirm oysters induce an amorous mood. It lifts the libido too. Thus far, there are many reasons that you can have fun with the world’s most infamous romantic foods. Oysters are possibly the best-known culinary experience with love. So far, chili peppers are near the top of love’s scoreboard. This often brings about a boost in the mood and a surge in energy. In fact, the heat you feel when consuming chilli warms the body. Chilli is used as a key ingredient to fortify chocolate drinks. It was a very famous drink for the great ruler Montezuma for his daily visit to his beautiful concubines.
Chocolates are for love. The chemicals in chocolate make us so happy when we eat them. It contains a stimulating alkaloid similar to caffeine. It has a stimulant that is released in the brain when people fall in love.
